My name is Jennifer Combs I am a 34yr old mother of two boys 11 and 5. I have been married for 13yrs to a very supportive husband and father of our children. I have always wanted to be a nurse. This dream started when I was a very small child. I pretended to be a nurse as a child treating my sister for all sorts of pretend illness. I started my medical career in 1999 as a medical assistant. I tried to go back to school a few times to become an RN but something would always happen stopping me from fulfilling my dream. After many attempts I finally managed to get into the nursing program I am currently in semester 4 of 5 at Bacone college in Muskogee. I will graduate in May 2012 and plan to go on to get my BSN starting in August 2012. My goal is to work in a critical care area upon graduation in May. |

Hello! I am Tatum Middleton, your 2011-2012 Director-at-large. I am a first year nursing student at Tulsa Community College, and serve on the board of directors for TCC's SNA. I also work at St. John Medical Center in the Emergency Department as tech. I have worked off and on in the medical field for 13 years, starting out volunteering for the American Red Cross. I have known for a long time that I wanted to be a nurse, but I have taken some time to get here. I think the most important thing for future nurses to know is that they should never give up. Sometimes we may need to alter our route a bit, but many roads can still lead to the same destination. I look forward to meeting many of you this year as we bring our Road Trip Tour to your local chapters, and also look forward to speaking to everyone about participating in House of Delegates. We have an exciting year planned, and I am very happy to have the opportunity to serve you all!! |

Breakthrough to Nursing Director:
Amanda Carey
SW Oklahoma State University Nursing Student |
My name is Amanda Carey. I currently represent the ONSA as Breakthrough to Nursing and serve as the ONSA Liaison for the SNA at SWOSU. Nursing is not only a career to me, but a calling of compassion. “People may not remember what you said or did, but they will remember how you made them feel” (anonymous author). I know that a nurse has a huge impact on making mankind “feel” better and plan to be a part of that. I participated in Club Med, an extracurricular program at Fairview High School that introduced me to multiple areas of the health field and mother is a registered nurse. I enrolled at SWOSU after graduation and looked into becoming a pharmacist, but with further investigation I changed my major to nursing. Still interested in the pharmaceutical aspect, I plan to continue my education and become a certified registered nurse anesthetist. While in college, I participate in 5K runs, triathlons, coed basketball & softball, as well as community awareness; Relay for Life, Apheresis donation, and volunteer for the Agape Clinic. I have worked as a personal care aide and for many years have been a certified life guard. I am very excited to work on the board this year and I want to make it the best year possible! |

My name is Rhonda Lawes and I am the OLN faculty consultant for the Board of Directors for ONSA. It has been my privilege to work alongside the Board as they work to serve you, the members of ONSA. I am an assistant Professor at the University Of Oklahoma College Of Nursing and my two favorite courses to teach are Pharmacology and Acute and Chronic Illness 2. I am already impressed with your new board as they hit the ground running for 2010-2011. In their first first quarter of their term, they have already led a state-wide community service project and raised more than enough support to educate and feed over 300 teens in Haiti regarding cholera and AIDS prevention! The education took place in Haiti on December 11, 2010. I can't wait to see what the board accomplishes in the rest of their term and I am looking forward to supporting them in their roles as they continue to lead ONSA to even more effective service for all members! |
